Discussing Sexual Violence, PAI Student Association Unismuh Holds Dialogue on Empowering Women

UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR - The Student Association of the Islamic Education Department (HMJ) of the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar, held the "Empowered Women's Dialogue" event on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

The dialogue event, organized by the HMJ PAI Unismuh Makassar, carried the theme "Attitudes and Roles of Organizations in Examining Issues of Sexual Violence."

Present at the dialogue event were Irna Rindiani, Chair of the Branch of the Ikatan Mahasiswa Muhammadiyah (IMM) in Makassar City, Ririn Nadia Tamrin, Chair of the Makassar City Branch of Kohati, and A. Tenri Wuleng, Chair of Kopri PMII Gowa.

The dialogue event took place after the opening of the 1st Diksuswati (Training) of the IMM Branch of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Unismuh Makassar, at STIE AMKOP Makassar.

In his speech, Fathurrahman, Chairman of the HMJ PAI Unismuh Makassar, hoped that the orientation of this activity would lead to the emergence of a collective awareness.

"Therefore, both men and women must understand and create a conducive environment, especially within organizations," he said.

During the presentation by the first speaker, A. Tenri Wuleng, Chair of Kopri PMII Gowa, revealed that in reality, achieving gender equality and justice is not easy, even with equal opportunities for women to participate in various fields like men.

"The actualization of women in the domestic and public spheres, formulated as issues of gender-conscious construction and actualization, requires a gender-conscious perspective," he said.

Meanwhile, the second speaker, Immawati, Chair of IMMPC Makassar, discussed issues of sexual violence.

"We often encounter sexual violence in the education sector, where we may be victims or perpetrators, and sexual violence in the education sector needs to be seriously studied," she said.

Furthermore, she reminded that anyone can be a victim of sexual violence.

"Women and men can be victims. Sexual violence does not discriminate," she said.

In the same location, the third speaker, Ririn Nadila Tamrin, Chair of Kohati Makassar Branch, said, "Looking back at cases of sexual violence.

"Many cases are unresolved due to weak law enforcement," she said.

Further, Ririn said that the issue of sexual violence often involves women as victims, and it is regrettable that they remain silent.

"These cases are not brought to the legal realm because most people take out by marriage, giving money to resolve the case, and other family arrangements," she concluded.
