Unismuh Makassar PAI Program: Integrating Islamic Values, Technology, and Management Skills in Education
UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR — The undergraduate program of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar continues to strengthen its position as one of the programs that prepares adaptive Islamic educators in the digital era. This program has obtained excellent accreditation and developed a curriculum that integrates Islamic values with innovative learning technology and strengthens managerial competencies in education.
The Dean of the PAI Program at Unismuh Makassar, Dr. Abdul Fattah, said that strengthening the curriculum and learning innovation are the main focus to address the challenges of Islamic education that are constantly evolving.
"This program is designed to produce graduates who are not only competent in Islamic education science, but also able to adapt to technological developments, have managerial skills in managing educational institutions, and are able to respond to social dynamics," he said when confirmed via WhatsApp on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
He added that Islamic religious education today requires a new approach that not only emphasizes the mastery of materials, but also creativity in conveying Islamic values through various media and the ability to manage and improve the quality of educational institutions.
The curriculum applied in the PAI program at Unismuh Makassar is structured gradually with a total of 144 semester credit hours (SKS). Students take 20 SKS in the first and second semesters, then increase to 24 SKS in the third and fourth semesters. In the fifth semester, students take 20 SKS again, while in the sixth semester, they take 18 SKS.
The seventh and eighth semesters are focused on strengthening research, field practice, and completing final assignments with a total of 8 SKS and 10 SKS.
In addition to the systematic curriculum structure, the teaching model is also designed to be more flexible. This program applies a hybrid learning system that combines face-to-face lectures with the use of digital technology. This model is expected to expand students' learning experience and prepare them to face the technology-based education ecosystem.
According to Dr. Abdul Fattah, this approach also opens up opportunities for students to develop skills in producing digital-based educational content. This is in line with the current education needs that increasingly utilize digital platforms as learning media.
The admission of new students in the PAI program at Unismuh Makassar is still open until August 15, 2026. Registration is done online through the official website of the university's new student admission.

Candidates can choose several available selection routes, namely Computer Based Test (CBT), selection based on report cards, selection through UTBK-SNBT scores, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). These routes provide opportunities for various student backgrounds to continue their studies in the field of Islamic religious education.
Graduates of the PAI program have diverse career prospects in the field of education and other related sectors in the development of Islamic science. In addition to becoming Islamic Religious Education teachers in schools or madrasahs, alumni can also pursue careers as learning media developers, Islamic education content creators, or online learning-based tutoring.
In the field of educational management, graduates can also become school or madrasah principals, educational supervisors or supervisors, educational quality assurance staff, or professional educational administrative staff who play a role in managing and improving the quality of Islamic educational institutions.
Meanwhile, in the field of research and policy development, graduates can work as research assistants, educational policy analysts in government agencies such as the Ministry of Education or education departments, and writers of popular educational works in the field of Islamic education.
This program also opens up entrepreneurial opportunities through the development of educational institutions, tutoring, and technology-based Islamic education startups.
In terms of financing, students are charged with a development fee of Rp 3.1 million, which is paid in one installment during their studies. While the tuition fee per semester is set at Rp 2.9 million.
In addition, there are other academic costs related to specific academic activities, such as field introduction practices, professional work, seminar proposals, comprehensive exams, thesis, and graduation.
